Since my last Heartmenders article, I have been on a whirlwind of travel with a gentleman who unexpectedly won my heart as I exited the stage after a performance. Wheels are always UP, and I’m starting to lose track of the beautiful locations my B.S. and I have traveled. Let’s start with our first trip, one month after we met, which took us to beautiful St. Petersburg, Florida. Our hotel, situated on the most welcoming beach, was amazing. We locked onto a taxi driver who took us everywhere in what I call the B-Van, a transport van converted into a drop-top, bus-like vehicle, driven by a wonderful tour guide named Frisbee. Fris took us everywhere for the low cost of $0 (of course, we tipped him well). One night during a ride, the three of us got caught in a thunderstorm in the B-Van. It was so much fun getting drenched while riding, we were laughing all the way!

A few weeks later, duty called for me to perform in Athens, Greece. It was hard for me to travel without my new travel buddy, but he bridged the gap with a beautiful surprise straight from my playbook! I wake one morning to a knock on the bedroom door, “Rose! Wake up, you’ve got romance!” My gentleman suitor had a beautiful bouquet of roses and assorted flowers delivered to the apartment where I was staying in Greece. Romance was beautiful! It seems that I had met my match! The next month brought a solid commitment that is withstanding the tests of time! He says, “Let’s,” and I say, “Go.”
I usually try to take a trip at the end of every year to reset for the next, and I had to one-up his Grecian surprise! We enjoyed a few evenings playing the YouTube jukebox, attempting to play songs neither of us had heard before. I knew he loved music just as much as I did, but the queen ruled this game. I learned while playing that we are both HUGE Prince fans. I thought it would be a great time to visit Purple One’s compound with him and plan a trip to Paisley Park in Chanhassen, Minnesota. So many emotions overcame us both on this trip. We are still screaming “Ah-Oooh-Wah” at each other in a private joke only we can decipher. Fast forward to our next year-end trips to a sauna/swimming pool/jacuzzi room in Perrysburg, Ohio, and a beautiful resort in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. This year, we will be bringing in the New Year in Sin City, Las Vegas, and I have another surprise planned for Valentine’s Day!

Here we are, three years in, with a lifetime of travel to GO. We’ve visited multiple cities in Michigan, Ohio, Illinois, Missouri, Minnesota, Florida, Georgia, California, Kentucky, Texas, Louisiana, North Carolina, Wisconsin, the District of Columbia, and two countries. We’ve found beauty in the Tunnel of Trees, the Heritage Bike Trail, at Blink on the Purple People Bridge, atop Sleeping Bear Dunes, Sierra Madre mountains, The Alamo, Nolia cemeteries, the Streets of San Francisco, hot air balloon, water lantern and Stone Mountain BBQ festivals, the Harriet Tubman Freedom Center, African-American Baseball Museum, Muhammad Ali Center, Black Negro League Baseball Museum, National Museum of African American History and Culture and so many more. The happiest place I’ve found solace while traveling or on an uneventful evening, though, is in his arms.
Here’s to happy hearts that don’t need mending.
